Know Smyrna.
Smyrna is a town that sits across two counties: the Kent County side belongs to the Dover metropolitan area, and the New Castle County side is part of the Philadelphia metro. The 2020 census counted 12,883 residents. The town began as Duck Creek Cross Roads and took the name Smyrna in 1806, after the old Aegean port city. In its early years it shipped grain, lumber, tanbark and produce north along Duck Creek and was described as the most important port between Wilmington and Lewes. Today the traffic is on asphalt. US 13 runs through town on Dupont Boulevard, the DE 1 toll road passes along the east side, and the Smyrna Rest Area sits at their junction. Out past town lies the tidal marsh of Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge.

- Federal wildlife staff say Bombay Hook, set up in 1937 on the Delaware coast, protects one of the largest remaining stretches of tidal salt marsh.[2]
Three ways we help.
Smyrna roads we cover.
The toll road runs along the eastern edge of town with exits at 114 for South Smyrna and 119 for North Smyrna. Drivers commuting between Dover and Wilmington often pass Smyrna without stopping, then find the next exit farther than expected.
The main north-south road through town, known locally as Dupont Boulevard. It parallels DE 1 toward both Dover and Wilmington and is the slower, signal-controlled alternative when the toll road is backed up.
DE 6 crosses Smyrna east to west, heading toward Clayton in one direction and Woodland Beach on the bay in the other. DE 300 joins it before splitting southwest toward Kenton. Long rural stretches leave few places to stop.
When a Smyrna charger lets you down.
Smyrna is a pass-through town for a lot of drivers, and that is exactly the risk. DE 1 makes the Dover to Wilmington run fast, so it is easy to skip a top-up and assume the next exit will have one. If you are already low near the Smyrna Rest Area, stop there rather than pressing on. A safe, lit place with a known exit number is the best spot for us to find you, and it beats coasting onto a toll-road shoulder.
Smyrna climate, by the numbers.
Smyrna's article describes hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters, classed as humid subtropical. The monthly table puts July highs near 87°F and January lows around 27°F, with roughly 46 inches of precipitation a year. The winter numbers are what matter for EVs: frosty mornings on open roads near the bay slow charging and trim range until the battery warms.

Range in Smyrna.
Two counties, one town
Smyrna straddles the Kent and New Castle county line. That rarely matters to you, but it matters when you call emergency services or give a location. Say Smyrna, the road and the nearest exit number. Dispatch will sort out the rest.
Toll road versus Dupont Boulevard
DE 1 has limited exits and long gaps between them. US 13 has lights and businesses all along it. If your range is falling faster than planned, leaving the toll road at Exit 114 or 119 and creeping along Dupont Boulevard can buy you a safer place to stop.
Out toward the marsh
East of town, DE 6 heads to Woodland Beach and the Bombay Hook refuge, which federal wildlife staff describe as mostly tidal salt marsh. Roads out there are rural and exposed. Visit with plenty of charge, especially on cold or windy days.
Hypothetical, on real roads.

DE 1 northbound near Exit 119
Tesla Model Y
Imagine a nurse finishing a night shift in Dover and heading north on DE 1, the range estimate dropping faster than usual on a frosty morning. In this example she would take Exit 119, pull into the Smyrna Rest Area and call. A mobile charge would add enough range to finish the trip to Wilmington.
DE 6 toward Woodland Beach
Ford F-150 Lightning
Consider a birder who spent a cold afternoon near the bay and found the truck lower than expected for the drive back. The driver would stop on a safe pull-off along DE 6 and phone in the location. A technician would deliver a top-up to reach US 13. A hypothetical scenario only.

Smyrna, answered.
01Do you cover DE 1 around Smyrna?
Yes. Exits 114 and 119 serve the town. Give us the exit or mile marker and your direction of travel.
02Is the Smyrna Rest Area a good place to wait?
It is a safe, known spot at the US 13 and DE 1 junction near Exit 119. If you can reach it, it is a good place to call from.
03What does a visit cost?
Mobile charging is $175 per visit. Reviving a flat 12-volt costs $140; adding a top-up of the main pack on the same visit makes it $195. A flatbed, if needed, is $150 and then $10 for every mile.
04Can you reach rural roads east of town?
Yes, including DE 6 toward Woodland Beach. Rural addresses can take longer, and dispatch will say so honestly.
05How much range does one charge add?
Roughly 25 to 50 miles per visit. That covers the run to Dover or most of the way to Wilmington.
