About Mesa

Know Mesa.

Mesa is the third largest city in Arizona and the largest city in the East Valley of metro Phoenix. The 2020 census counted 504,258 residents, and it is the most populous American city that is not a county seat. It borders Tempe on the west and the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community on the north, and stretches a long way east toward Apache Junction. Downtown Mesa centers on Main Street, served by Valley Metro Rail, while Falcon Field in the northeast and Mesa Gateway Airport in the southeast corner handle air traffic. Arizona State University's Polytechnic campus sits in southeast Mesa. We respond along these corridors and in the newer neighborhoods on the city's growing eastern edge.

Local weather & your EV

Mesa climate, by the numbers.

Mesa's climate table uses 1991–2020 normals from an East Mesa station. July averages a high near 106°F, and highs top 100°F from June through September; December lows dip to about 40°F. Annual rain is roughly 11 inches, split between winter storms and a late-summer monsoon bump in July and August. For EVs, the heat is the dominant factor: battery cooling runs constantly, and parked cars can lose charge without moving. Winter is gentle, though cold mornings can slow fast charging.

Highways & corridors

Mesa roads we cover.

US 60

The Superstition Freeway runs between Apache Junction and Phoenix. Summer rush-hour crawls with the AC maxed out are a reliable range drain.

Loop 202

Bypasses the city on the north and east sides, connecting to Gateway Airport. Long distances between exits in the newer areas.

Loop 101

The Price Freeway skirts the western city limit along the Tempe border.

SR 87

Heads north toward the Salt River and mountain country. Charging thins out quickly beyond the city.

Where you might need backup

When a Mesa charger lets you down.

Mesa is wide, and the eastern half has grown faster than its public charging. Drivers heading out on US 60 toward Apache Junction or up SR 87 toward the lakes sometimes find the last convenient station full or offline. In summer, sitting in a parking lot waiting for a stall is not only slow; the car spends energy cooling itself. If you are in single digits and facing a long wait, call.

Area by area

Where we meet you in Mesa.

West Mesa near Tempe

This older part of the city has more stations and denser streets. Give us the cross street off Main or the nearest light rail stop.

Gateway and the southeast

Industrial parks and newer neighborhoods spread out around the airport. Distances are longer, so share a map pin, and expect a slightly longer wait.

US 60 east

Beyond the city, toward Apache Junction, services thin out. If you are heading toward the Superstitions, charge in Mesa first.

Up SR 87

The road toward the lakes climbs into open country. Turn back early if range looks tight; our response time out there is much longer.

Falcon Field and the northeast

The general aviation airport in the northeast is surrounded by business parks and newer housing. Pilots and staff sometimes leave cars parked for days, and summer heat is hard on idle batteries. Tell us the hangar row or business name. The Red Mountain stretch of Loop 202 is the closest freeway approach for our technician.

Main Street and light rail

Downtown Mesa runs along Main Street, with the Valley Metro line in the middle of the road. Do not stop near the tracks. Turn onto a side street or into a public lot, then give us the nearest station name as a landmark.

Before you call

Have your plate, model and charge level ready. Say whether the car powers on. Mention kids, pets or heat risk first. If anyone is in danger, call 911 before us.

Driving notes

Range in Mesa.

Heat and parked cars

On the hottest days, cars parked in the sun keep running battery cooling. A pack that was low when parked can be even lower a few hours later. Shade and a higher starting charge make a real difference here.

Monsoon season

Summer storms bring sudden rain, dust and flooded washes. Do not drive through standing water to reach a charger. Pull over safely and call if you are low and the road ahead is blocked.

East Mesa growth

Neighborhoods near Gateway and along Loop 202 are newer and spread out. Distances to fast chargers are longer than in West Mesa near Tempe, so keep more buffer on the east side.

Example calls

Hypothetical, on real roads.

Illustrations only. Not records of real jobs.

Example call

US 60 eastbound near Power Road

Chevrolet Equinox EV

Picture a commuter on the Superstition Freeway on a 110°F evening, crawling through traffic until the pack hits zero short of Power Road. In this example, the driver would exit or stop safely, keep windows cracked if the AC shut down, and call. A technician would add enough range to reach a station nearby. An illustration only.

Example call

Lot near Mesa Gateway Airport

Kia Niro EV

Imagine a traveler returning from a week away to find a Niro EV dead in long-term parking near Gateway. Heat-stressed 12-volt batteries are a common culprit. In this scenario, a technician would jump the auxiliary battery and recommend testing or replacement. A hypothetical call, not a record.
