Know Long Beach.
Long Beach is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County, with 466,742 residents in the 2020 census, and the largest city in California that is not a county seat. Incorporated in 1897, it lies about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the Gateway Cities region. The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest container port in the country, and the city also hosts the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, the Catalina Express landing, the retired RMS Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. California State University, Long Beach is one of the largest campuses in the state, and each spring the streets downtown turn into the Grand Prix of Long Beach circuit. We cover the waterfront, downtown, the port area and the airport side of town.

Three ways we help.
Where we meet you in Long Beach.
Downtown and the Pike
Garages near the convention center and the aquarium fill on weekends and race week. Note the garage operator and level. When the Grand Prix circuit is set up, several downtown streets are closed or narrowed, so tell us which barriers are near you.
Port and Terminal Island
The port is one of the busiest anywhere, and its roads are built for container trucks, not roadside stops. If you stall near a terminal gate, move to a public lot if the car can still creep. We cannot enter secured terminal areas, so we will meet you at a reachable public street.
Cruise and Catalina terminals
Passengers leave cars for several days in the lots next to the Queen Mary dome. Long sits drain 12-volt batteries, especially in warm months. Before you sail, note the lot section; after you return, call from the car so we know it is truly unresponsive and not just in a deep sleep mode.
Airport and Signal Hill
Long Beach Airport lies on the north side near the 405. Give us the lot name and row. The streets climbing Signal Hill are steep; if you stall on the slope, set the brake and turn the wheels toward the curb.
East side and CSULB
California State University, Long Beach is one of the largest campuses in the state, and parking there turns over quickly between classes. Give us the lot number and the nearest building. Nearby residential streets near the 605 are calmer and easier for our van to reach.
Belmont Shore and the coast
Second Street and the beach lots fill on summer weekends. Street parking is tight, and our van needs a place to pull alongside. Give us the block and side of the street.
Before you call
Have your plate, model and charge level ready. Say whether the car powers on. Mention kids, pets or heat risk first. If anyone is in danger, call 911 before us.
Range in Long Beach.
Truck corridors
The 710 and the port roads carry heavy container traffic. Stopping on a narrow shoulder there is risky. Exit early if your range is low.
Cruise and ferry parking
Passengers returning to the cruise terminal or Catalina landing sometimes find a 12-volt flat after days parked. Note your lot and row before you leave.
Grand Prix weekend
The downtown street circuit closes roads for days. Plan charging away from the course during race week.
Long Beach roads we cover.
Splits the city north and south and passes Long Beach Airport near Signal Hill. Heavy, slow commute traffic.
Runs along the western edge from the port toward downtown LA. Truck traffic dominates.
Serves southeast Long Beach and runs north through the San Gabriel Valley.
Link the port and Terminal Island, where the Long Beach Freeway ends.
When a Long Beach charger lets you down.
Chargers near the waterfront and downtown fill on event days, cruise departures and race weekend. Electric drayage trucks and port service vehicles add to demand in the industrial areas. If the station you counted on is closed or full and the next is across the city through truck traffic, call before you run the pack to zero in a queue.
Long Beach climate, by the numbers.
Long Beach's climate table comes from the airport station about 4 miles inland, which sees wider swings than the shore. August highs average near 83°F and December lows about 47°F, with roughly 12 inches of rain a year, almost all from November to March. Summer mornings bring low cloud and fog that usually burns off. For EVs, the climate is gentle; only short heat waves push cooling loads up meaningfully.

I-405 near Long Beach Airport
Volkswagen ID.4
Picture a driver heading home on the 405 at 5:30 p.m., stuck in stop-and-go near the airport with a pack nearly empty after a long day. In this example, the driver would take the Lakewood exit and phone from a lot. A technician would bring enough miles to reach a charger. Purely illustrative.
Cruise terminal parking
Ford Mustang Mach-E
Imagine a couple returning from a week at sea, finding their Mach-E silent in the terminal lot. In this scenario, a technician would jump the auxiliary battery and check the main pack had enough for the drive home. A hypothetical call.
