Know Memphis.
Memphis is the seat of Shelby County and sits on the east bank of the Mississippi River. The 2020 census counted 633,104 residents, the second-largest total in Tennessee, and the metro area spills over into Arkansas and Mississippi. The source article describes the city as a national transportation hub: Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 both cross the Mississippi here, Memphis International Airport hosts the FedEx SuperHub, and several freight railroads converge on the city. That mix shapes where drivers get stuck. A pack can run down on a bridge approach toward West Memphis, in a warehouse district near the airport, or on the I-240 loop around Midtown during the evening crawl. Requests come in from Downtown near the riverfront, from Midtown, and from the residential neighborhoods stretching east toward the I-269 outer belt. We send a portable fast charger to wherever the car stopped.

Three ways we help.
Memphis climate, by the numbers.
The Memphis article describes a humid subtropical climate. July has a daily average temperature of about 82 degrees Fahrenheit, while January averages about 42, so winters are mild to chilly rather than harsh. For EV drivers that usually means summer is the bigger range factor: cabin cooling and battery thermal management both run hard in sticky July and August traffic. Cold snaps are shorter, but a chilly morning can still trim range and slow fast-charging until the pack warms. Leave extra buffer in both seasons when heading out on long interstate legs.

Memphis roads we cover.
The east-west interstate crosses the Mississippi into Arkansas here. Bridge approaches leave little shoulder room, so if the pack is nearly empty, exit on the Tennessee side rather than attempting the river crossing.
The north-south interstate also crosses the river and runs past the airport area toward Mississippi. Truck traffic tied to the freight hub means a stopped car should get well off the travel lane before anyone opens a door.
The loop through Midtown and around the south side links the two crossing interstates. The source lists it among the main expressways; its interchange with I-40 is where most cross-town trips funnel together.
Range in Memphis.
Do not gamble on the bridge
Both I-40 and I-55 carry drivers over the Mississippi into Arkansas. If you are heading west below about ten percent, charge on the Tennessee side first. A car that stalls on a long river span is harder to reach and riskier to work on than one parked at the last exit before it.
Freight corridors near the airport
The FedEx SuperHub and the freight railroads mean heavy trucks share the roads around the airport at all hours. If you stop near a distribution center, pull into a lot or a wide side street when you can, and tell dispatch the gate or dock number you are near.
The outer belt
The source notes I-269 and SR 385 as part of the expressway network ringing the eastern suburbs. Those roads cover long distances between exits. Starting a trip on them with a near-empty pack leaves fewer places to stop safely if the estimate drops.
When a Memphis charger lets you down.
Memphis spreads east from the river, so the distance between a dead car and the next open fast charger can grow quickly once you leave Downtown and Midtown. A broken stall at a retail lot, or a queue at the only nearby station, can push a low car onto I-40 or I-240 in search of another. If the dash shows only a handful of miles and the next site means crossing a busy interchange, stop somewhere safe and call. A short mobile charge costs less than a tow plus mileage, and it keeps you from stalling in a merge lane.
Hypothetical, on real roads.

I-40 westbound before the river
Hyundai Ioniq 6
Imagine a driver headed toward Little Rock who notices the range estimate falling faster than planned in Downtown traffic. Rather than starting the bridge crossing at 4 percent, the driver would exit, park and call. A technician would add enough charge to reach a fast station on either side of the river, and the trip would continue.
Warehouse lot near the airport
Ford E-Transit
Imagine a delivery van left idle over a holiday weekend that refuses to power on Monday morning. The likely problem would be a depleted 12-volt, not the traction battery. A technician would test it, jump it and, if needed, install a replacement so the van could start its route.

Memphis, answered.
01Can you reach me on the I-40 bridge approach?
We try, but work on a narrow bridge approach depends on whether there is a safe place to stop. Exit before the river if you can, then call with the nearest ramp.
02Do you come out to the airport warehouses?
Yes. Give dispatch the street, the gate number and whether security must let a technician in. That detail saves real time at large freight sites.
03What does a mobile charge cost in Memphis?
A mobile charge is $175 and adds roughly 25 to 50 miles. A combined 12-volt jump and charge is $195.
04What if my car needs a tow instead?
We arrange a flatbed through towing partners. Towing is $150 plus $10 per mile, quoted before anyone is dispatched.
05Do you help gas vehicles too?
Yes. Jump-starts, lockouts, tire changes and fuel delivery all apply. Fuel delivery is $150 and includes 3 gallons.
